How does EditFast decide the rate for each document?

When you select your own editor you are using the EditFast database of freelance editors. As such, we cannot guarantee that your chosen editor will be available. Clients are able to negotiate payment details directly with the editor they have chosen from their Project Area using the Search and Contact  function.

When you submit a document directly to me your turnaround time is guaranteed and you will receive a formal estimate immediately. (You can submit your document by attaching it to an email.)

In case your editor does not respond in time, please use the general estimate below as a guide to the cost for your document. These rates only apply to documents submitted directly to me, Robert Kidd, the owner and project manager of EditFast, individual freelance editors may use different rates.

Documents up to 3,000 words = US $0.03 (three cents) per word
Documents from 3,000 - 10,000 words = US $0.02 (two cents) per word
Documents from 10,000 -50,000 words = US $0.015 (1.5 cents) per word
Documents above 50,000 words will be dealt with on a project by project basis.

These are only general estimates and each document is assessed separately. I must always ask you to submit your document or a representative sample before I can give you a firm estimate. The final price for all documents will be determined by a comprehensive assessment of the following criteria:

   • The closer the deadline the more it will cost.
2. The quality of the writing
• Translated by a native speaker?
• First time writer?
• Professional writer?
• University graduate?
3. The field of specialization
• Technical?
• Fiction?
• Textbook?
• Business report?
• Manual?
4. The size of the document
• The larger the document the cheaper the rate per word
5. The type of editing needed
• Final proofread?
• Complete rewrite?
• Copy writing?
6. The format requested for the final document
• Original format?
• Book format?
• Scholarly journal format?
• Special instructions?

EditFast can only give you a firm estimate after taking a look at the complete document or a representative sample. Estimate requests are given priority and are replied to immediately.
