Profile
In a world where words are often used to confuse, manipulate, and mislead people, I'm passionate about saying things clearly, plainly, and honestly.
I will gladly help you to do the same — especially if:
* you have something important to say, and you want to say it clearly and directly
* you want your document to make a positive impact on those who read it
* you — and your audience — appreciate clear, well-written English
* English is not your first language, and you want to communicate well
I hold a BA degree in linguistics, with distinction, from a respected South African university. I have studied English literature, Latin, Greek, Japanese, Xhosa, and SeSotho. I also speak Afrikaans fluently. I have three degrees in theology, the third at Masters level. A newspaper journalist after graduating with my first degree, I have since had wide experience in Southern Africa and Australia as an editor, columnist, book reviewer, contributor to international journals, desktop publisher, trainer/facilitator, and speaker.
I have authored two books, many articles, a major tertiary distance education course, and a modest collection of poetry. I have founded and edited two journals, and currently edit a third.
My special interests include theology and musicology.
Present Occupation: Theological educator in tertiary distance education, and freelance editor / proofreader.
Editing Experience in Years: 23 — not counting two years as a working newspaper journalist. Apart from extensive writing and DTP experience, I have edited professional journals, and proofread magazine articles, dissertations, training manuals, web pages, academic papers, software help files, and examination papers.
